Moi et ma fille - { Me and my girl }

With fingers still smarting from a nasty incident with an insipid tea towel and a trés hot baking dish I scoured my craft books for just the right salve. No not a soothing ointment made from steeped calendula petals or some such natural concoction. I needed a cure and fast!

Enter the amazing Ms. Blake Soule's hot pads (perfect for picking up offending hot items) and an afternoon of crafting with my girl.

Bijou has always been enchanted with fabric, pins and my gal pal Jan (the Janome, that is) so what was this "still high from the festivities of Christmas and one too many rum balls" Mumma to do but open my arms and let her join in on this...our first official project together.

The stitches are rather wonky and the bias leaves a lot to be desired. And I required a few time outs for cups of tea and deep breaths but we got there in the end. Perhaps she's a whisker too small for such tasks but it ignited a gentle fire in me. One that will burn like hot embers in my heart until her language solidifies enough for her to ask, "Can we make something together Mumma?"

Here's to a grand year of making, learning, growing, discovering and adventuring.....for all of us!

Totally cute!! I had all my children spooling bobbins by the time they were 3, i loathe that job but they love it!! Also take advantage of their incredible eye sight for threading needles, they're so keen!! I extra love my auto threading Brother Innovis but the good old Janome Decor Excel & Janome industrial are totaly favourites. Happy New Year Steph, love Posie

How sweet to craft with your daughter. This is indeed 'quality time' for both of you. I love when my last daughter (17) wants to make things with me, it is food for my soul.
Bonne Année Steph, your stocking was much admired (sitting on the piano, there is a photo on my blog).

Happy new year Steph!

The two of you look adorable! Sophie is always trying to help with my sewing projects too.. she reminds me to "be careful of the needle" and loves it when she gets to press the foot pedal all by herself.. Maybe we will give hot pads a go! xx

So special! I love her little tongue out in concentration. The pink fabric on right of pot holder looks exactly like my doona cover as a child which is still treasured and my youngest still sleeps under now. Here's to many more hours of sewing together as she gets older.

This is just so lovely! You inspire me to let my little girl help out. The potholders are great too - where do you get your beautiful fabric?

I have those very same sheets! The pink florals and blue tones and white floral. I love vintage bed linens and I love even more that the same ones are half way around the world. ♥

Hello! I've just popped over from your 'twin' Brenda @ Mira Narnie. Your blog is delightful and equally as crafty as your twin. I'm now following. I hope you don't mind! xx
